Montgomery Village Concrete Demolition and Excavation, Santa Rosa, Ca, Sonoma County
The Project:
Great project on the 2024 calendar! Adobe Construction is performing the concrete demolition and off haul at Montgomery Village in Santa Rosa, Ca. We are very much grateful for this opportunity (as we are on every opportunity we have!). Take a look at the first phase photos for our current progress which took Adobe Construction 15 working days (700 Tons of concrete removed and recycled).
Challenges:
The access and lack of ability to stockpile concrete were our main challenges on this project. Adobe Construction had to remove the concrete and then load it without a large stockpile which made it very important to create a schedule for trucking based on concrete removal progress. Additionally there were some changes which we had to adapt too which forced us to do a lot more hand work then we initially anticipated.
Concrete Removal Process:
Our primary equipment selected for this project were our CAT 305 Excavator with breaker and CAT 259d skid steer to move broken concrete. We would have liked to mobilize larger equipment however the limited access prevented us from doing so. We dealt with many different concrete pours that were patched and added onto over the years, some with rebar and wire some without. We adapted to the various challenges and continuously evaluated our work flow to be as efficient as possible. Huge thanks to All Grade Excavating for the assistance in with this project.
Debris Removal:
In addition to our owned dump truck we utilized the services of M&S Trucking to help us off haul the broken concrete to a facility where it can be recycled. This was a slower process then we originally anticipated due to the necessity to hand break large areas of concrete. M&S Trucking adapted with us as per usual and exceeded our expectations.
Conclusion:
Adobe Construction removed and demolished approximately 20,000 sqft of concrete (700 Tons) in a 3 week period. I was very impressed with our performance given the various unexpected obstacles. This will be a project that we can look back on learn from for future projects. Stay tuned as we will be on an off of this job site for the remainder of 2024!
